Pet Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of needles into specific points on the body to change hormonal and neurological input to the brain.  Not only is acupuncture proven to help with pain relief, and healing, but it is completely drug free and one of the safest, most natural forms of therapy that pets can benefit from.

Sometimes pets have conditions that despite all efforts, are not responding to medications or are at a point where increasing drug dosages or invasive surgeries are not a desirable option.  Acupuncture is a proven, complementary therapy to conventional medicine. We are excited to offer this safe and effective adjunctive treatment.  Dr. Christina is part of a small number of veterinarians in our area certified in veterinary acupuncture (through Colorado State University).

The process begins with  a complete muscle and facial exam.  Then Dr. Christina examines your pets' gait to determine other problem areas such as muscle insufficiency, knots in the tissue as well as identifying painful areas.  Next, needles will be inserted (often painlessly) to specific and strategic points that will help in pain reduction and healing of the area needing attention.  By accurately stimulating points that correspond to neurologic and neuromuscular pathways, acupuncture can change the hormonal and neurological input to the brain reducing pain and stimulating circulation to help with surgical or trauma recovery.  Acupuncture may also be complemented by laser therapy for increased benefits and faster results.

"Buster" really enjoyed his acupuncture sessions.  At 18 years of age he had a lot of back arthritis and was much more comfortable after the addition of acupuncture to his therapy. See the red needles on the right.
